Growing up I was never the biggest kid on the playground but I did discover that I had a tremendous amount of energy that not all the other kids possessed. I was always intrigued by what it would take to beat the fastest kid on the playground in a race, shoot the winning shot over the tallest, and run a touchdown against the largest. It was this competitiveness that drove me to not always be the best on the court or field, but to be the most motivated and hard working.

It wasn’t until High school that I became “hooked” on athletics, competing in football, basketball, and baseball, but truly falling in love with track and field. Other sports had always been more of a recreational activity than competition. After four years of competing at the varsity level in a number of events (long jump, high jump, 100m, 4x100, 200m) I sustained a dislocated hip which disabled me from continuing at the college level after high school. Soon after I began physical therapy for my injury, I began to discover that if you apply a stress on the body it will adapt eventually and become stronger. It was that concept that drove me the same way as wanting to be faster in elementary school did. After recovering from my injury about a year later I began to become very interested at the cause and effect of injuries had not only on athletes, but the general person. I then began an internship that later turned into an assistantship at Lane Community College in the Therapeutic Exercise Rehabilitation Class (TERC), and soon after completed my two year degree in the Fitness Specialist Program.
